Description		    David b. Mordecai Kukizow (1777–1855), moved to Eupatoria in 1822. In his youth he was friendly with Nachman Krochmal. Kukizow owned a printing press where he reprinted in 1834 the Adderet Eliyahu of Elijah Bashyazi, adding to the section dealing with the new moon two treatises, Yemot Olam and Halikhot Olam. He also wrote Kevi'ot Rashei Hodashim u-Tekufot ke-Minhag ha-Kara'im and Ma'amar be-Kiddush ha-Hodesh (Eupatoria, 1840), on calendation and the calculation of the new moon. His main work Zemah David, completed in 1848, but published posthumously (St. Petersburg, 1897), contains essays on the laws concerning Sabbath, abstinence, determination of the new moon, etc., and poems and elegies, as well as annotations to biblical passages.

The Karaites are a sect which does not recognize the authority of the post-Biblical tradition incorporated in the Talmud and in the Rabbinic works. Ironically, they have developed an entire literature to support their religion - while rejecting the Rabbanite interpretations. All their works are rare, as they were printed in limited quantities and limited distributions.

נדפס בלא שער. מספרי הקראים. יוסף שלמה לוצקי חיבר ביאור "טירת כסף" על ספר המבחר, מאת ר' אהרן בן יוסף, גוזלוו 1835. דוד כוכיזוב, "המגיה את הספרים המובאים כעת לבית הדפוס פה ק"ק גוזלווא", כתב השגות על "טירת כסף" וקראן "סכת דוד". יוסף שלמה לוצקי הדפיס את ההשגות הללו וקרא שמן "שגיון לדוד" ובצידן תשובותיו: "מענה לשון".

"מודעא רבא עם הסכמות חכמי הדור": ר' אהרן ב"ר משה, ר' שמואל ב"ר יוסף, ר' יוסף שכרג'י ור' אברהם פירכוויץ, כו אלול תקצ"ד.
