Description
One hundred thirty eight responsa from R. David Solomon Eibeschutz. This is the personal copy of the renowned R. Samuel ben Israel Heller of Safed (1803-84), whose autograph signature appears on the title page. The text of that page, within a decorative frame, informs that R. Eibeschutz was the rabbi of Buzhanow and Soroki and that his died in Safed. Also that he was the author of Levush Serad on Yoreh De’ah and Orah Hayyim and of Arve Nahal on the Torah. Furthermore, there is an addenda with two responsa from R. Solomon Kruger (1785-1869). On [2a] a sugia d’kedusha on Kiddushin 79 from R. Abraham Benjamin Kluger. On [2b] is a preface from R. Abraham Benjamin Kluger who brought the book to press, who concludes by informing that דשא is a notarikan for ד David ש Solomon א Eibeschutz. Below it are prefatory remarks from R. Zelig ביסליכס and R. Aryeh Rozin who also helped bring the work to press. There is an index [3a-b] and then the responsa. At the end of the volume are the two responsa of R. Kluger. The second part of Ne’ot Deshe is still in manuscript.

R. David Solomon Eibeschutz (d. c. 1812) was a student of R. Moses Zevi Heller (Geon Ẓevi) and, in addition to Buzhanow and Soroki (Volhynia) was also rabbi in Jassy. (Rumania). From the last-named city he went to Palestine and remained there till his death. His Levushe Serad is in two parts; the first part a commentary on the Shulhan Arukh, Orah Hayyim, with comments the Ture Zahav and the Magen Avraham; at the end of this part is added the plan of the Temple as described by Ezekiel (Mohilev, 1818, and frequently). The second part is on Shulhan Arukh, Yoreh De’ah (Mohilev, 1812). R. Eibeschutz was the author of many cabalistic and Talmudical works, which still exist in manuscript. Arve Nahal is also in two parts, the first a treatise on the Pentateuch, the second consisting of sermons.
