Detailed
Description
One hundred twenty three responsa on all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh from R. Mordecai Michael ben Menahem Mendel Jaffe. This copy belonged to R. Isaac Elhanan Spektor (1817–1896), whose stamp is on the title page. There is an introduction from R. Jaffe, and then the text, in two columns, set in rabbinic type excepting headers and initial words. The volume concludes with an index of the responsa. These are practical responsa, for, as R. Jaffe relates, these responsa are based on inquiries that came before him when he served as rabbi. The front end paper has owners’ signatures and other writings in Hebrew and non-Hebrew letters.

R. Mordecai Michael ben Menahem Mendel Jaffe (d. 1868) was among the leading students of R. Akiva Eger (1761-1837) and served as Av Bet Din in שניידמיהל and, in his later years, as Rav of the klaus in Hamburg.
