Description
Book of verse issued in honor of the seventieth anniversary of the founding of the Haveret ha-Ahim by Dov Baer ben Judah Leib Schweitzer. The title page has a decorative frame and states that it is Ez Ra’anan (green tree, a phrase that appears in the bible eleven times), and then text including Psalm 1:3 on alternate lines, “‘And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,’ these seventy years for us ‘the desires of [our] eyes’ (cf. I Kings 20:6, Ezekiel 24:16, 21, 25 ), ‘that brings forth its fruit in its season,’ behold all of us complete ‘its leaf also shall not wither,’ on a brother you shall have pity with kindness, ‘and whatever he does shall prosper,’ who bears troubles God praises.” Below is an insignia of a tree with the phrase Gesellschaft der Bruder su Bresau 1795 (Society of the brothers of Breslau). It is dated Sunday, 11 Nissin çáøú (610=24 March, 1850). There is a second German title page that says dem würdigen vorstande der Gesellschaft (the worthy executive committee of the Society) and then names seven officers, and below, Schweitzer, who is listed as the author. The text of the verse is in a single column in vocalized Hebrew. There is an owner’s signature on the title page and on the last two pages is the stamp of B. A. Margolis and his signature, Baruch Margolis.
