Description		    Responsa on all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh by R. Hayyim Zevi ben Hananiah Yom Tov Lipa of Sighet. The title page has a decorative frame and provides information about R. Hayyim Zevi and his other works. It also informs as to who helped publish the work and is dated, “I will walk before the Lord in the land בארצות (699=1939) of the living” (Psalms 116:9). The verso of the title page has an announcement against confusing terms such as akum and goi with current gentiles, a warning against unauthorized reprinting, and where the work can be purchased, the latter in Latin letters. There is an introduction and then the responsa. Orah Hayyim (1a-39a) has forty two responsa, Yoreh De’ah (39b-77a) thirty eight responsa, Even ha-Ezer (77b-118b) thirty three responsa, and Hoshen Mishpat (119a-129b) thirty four responsa. The first two parts each conclude with detailed indexes. The indexes for the last two parts (130a-133b) follow Hoshen Mishpat. The second part of Azei Hayyim, on hilkhot mikvot, has a separate title page.

R. Hayyim Zevi ben Hananiah Yom Tov Lipa of Sighet (b. in the 1870s–1926) was well known as a rabbi and zaddik, as was his father before him. He served as Av bet Din and Rosh Mesivtah in Sighet. In addition to these responsa, Azei Hayyim, he also wrote Azei Hayyim on the Torah and the festivals (in three parts, 1927–34) and Azei Hayyim, on tractate Gittin (1939). His son, R. Jekuthiel Judah of Sighet, was the last rabbi to serve in Sighet, perishing in the Holocaust at Auschwitz in 1944.
