Funeral eulogy (commemoration) delivered on behalf of David Jacob ha-Kohen by Rabbi Professor S. Ghiron. The title page describes it as Opere pie Colonna-Finzi e Fubini-Treves Nella commemorazione funebre di David Jacomo Sacerdote (The Religious charities Colonna-Finzi and Fubini-Treves [issued] at the funeral commemoration of David Jacob ha-Kohen, January 15, 1888. There is a dedicatory page in both Hebrew and Italian, which dates the death of David Jacob ha-Kohen to 28 Kislev [5]648 (Wednesday, December 14, 1888), and mentions his daughters, Rivka (Enrichetta), Malvano, and Camilla ha-Kohen. It informs that he donated 40,000 lire to the Collegio Colonna e Finzi. Next is the text, in Italian, with occasional Hebrew, from Professor S. Ghiron, Rabbino Maggiore. In writing about David Jacob ha-Kohen, R. Ghiron quotes in his praise that the world stands upon three pillars, Torah, Avodah (Temple Service), and Gemilut Hasidim (Acts of Kindness)(Avot 1:2), relating them to David Jacob ha-Kohen.
R. Samuel Hayyim Ghiron (1829–1895) was born in Ivrea and qualified, in 1854, as a teacher of literature. In 1877 he was appointed rabbi of Turin. R. Ghiron published a prayer book according to the Italian rite, with an Italian translation (Leghorn, 1879). In the National Library, Jerusalem, there is an elegy on the death of Hillel Cantoni in Italian and Hebrew, the latter by R. Samuel Ghiron (Turin, 1857). In 1880, with the assistance of B. Peyron, he published a catalog of the Hebrew manuscripts in Turin.
