Description		    Only edition of this selection of satirical works by the parodist Zevi Hirsch ben Shimon Sommerhausen. There are Latin and Hebrew title pages. The full Hebrew title is Hitsai Shenunim (sharp arrows, cf. Isaiah 5:28, Psalms 45:6, 120:4): Mahberet Rishonah me-Agadat Mikhtamim. It states that most were written and a few translated from other languages into Hebrew by the author who is a resident of Brussels. The Latin title is given as Epigrammata Hebraica and (Fasciulus I – Epigr. Satyrica). The book begins with an epigram in Hebrew and Latin from Martialis (1:17) followed by an introduction from Sommerhausen. He notes that the verses in this work are called in Greek epigrams, which he discusses in an accompanying footnote. There is a table of contents enumerating ten sha’arim in the Hebrew part of the book and noting the number of stanzas to each part, which total 358. There is a half title page, a stanza inquiring as to the purpose of the work concluding, “The end of the matter, all has been heard” (Ecclesiastes 12:13), and the Hebrew section, which is followed by a brief section (97-123) in other language entitled Epigrammata in variis Linguis, and then errata. The Hebrew text is in a single column in vocalized Hebrew. The cover has titles in both Hebrew and Latin, the former as Agadat Mikhtamim I the latter Epigrammata Hebraica I.

Zevi Hirsch ben Shimon Sommerhausen was a Hebrew philologist, who lived in Holland and Belgium. He was the author of one of the best Hebrew parodies which has retained its popularity, Haggadah le-Leil Shikkorim, a parody of the traditional Passover Haggadah. It is reminiscent of the classical wine-songs in the Hebrew poetry of Spain and in the poetry of the other peoples - the Greek Anacreon and the Persian Omar Khayyam.
