Description		    Responsa on the Arba’ah Turim by R. Moses ben Hayyim Shabbtai. Published with Torat Moshe are novellae from R. Moses’ father, R. Hayyim ben Shabbtai (Maharhash, c. 1555–1647). The title page has ornate decorative woodcuts in a distinct oriental style. It is dated with a chronogram from the verse, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life” (Proverbs 11:30). There is an introduction from the editor, R. Hayyim Abraham ben Shabbtai Nehemiah in which each paragraph contains in enlarged letters the words Torat and Moshe. There is a detailed index of the responsa grouped by subject, beginning with Nedarim and Shevu’ot, and including such diverse subjects as freeing slaves, Gittin, halizah, partnerships, deeds, and ba’alei teshuvah. Section headings, that is, the parts of the Tur, are enclosed in ornamental frames. Foliation begins again with Hoshen Mishpat. At the end are the novellae of Maharhash on tractates Ta'anit and on the last chapter of tractate Yoma. Torat Moshe is printed on heavy white paper.
