Description		    On Talmudic principles by R. Samuel ben Joshaua Abraham Krispin. The title is from, “And Abram said, Lord God, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house (meshek baisi) is this Eliezer of Damascus?” (Genesis 15:2). That verse is also used to arrive at the publication date. There are three introductions, from R. Solomon ben Samuel Hahkim of Izmir (in fact an approbation), from R. Yoshua Abraham Krispin, the author’s father, and R. Aaron Krispin, the author’s brother. Meshek Baisi was printed posthumously, as the introductions refer to R. Samuel Abraham Krispin as among the deceased, and thus explain the title. R. Yoshua Abraham Krispin’s introduction is comprised of nine paragraphs, each beginning my son and ending Samuel. R. Aaron Krispin’s introduction has four paragraphs that begin, our brother and conclude with Samuel. The title page is dated 1833 but the approbation of R. Hahkim is dated, “Buy the truth אמת קנה (596 = 1836)” (Proverbs 23:23).

Meshek Baisi is in two parts. The first, arranged alphabetically, on Talmudic principles, the second on the principles of the halakhic decisors. The volume concludes with an index. The text, which is expansive in style, is set in a single column in rabbinic letters, excepting headers and initial words which are in square letters.

בשער: ותהי ראשית מלאכתו בשנ[ת] התקצ"ג ליצירה. הקדמת המגיהים והסכמות הרבנים חתומות: תמוז תקצ"ו. דף [4,ב-5,א]: ואלה דברי המגיהים... יום טוב קריספין ... אהרן קריספין. כותבים בין השאר: אחינו... שמואל... בעודינו רך בשנים הכינה... מפוזר ומפורד על הנייר ועל הדפטרא. אין סדר למשנה זעיר שם זעיר שם חסורי מחסרא... לסדר סדר המערכה... יגענו בעשר אצבעותינו... מילתא אגב אורחין נתחדש אצלינו...
