Detailed
Description		    Two detailed, eyewitness accounts of events in the Holy Land. The first (pp. 3-24) describes an uprising in 1746 of the people of Jerusalem against the Catholics. The second (pp. 33-52) describes the persecution of Catholics, notably Franciscans, at the instigation of the Greek Orthodox, in Jerusalem and Damascus in 1748. It is preceded by several letters introducing the account (pp. 25-32). Joao dos Prazeres (1648-1709) was one of P. Antonio Vieira's most notable disciples; of his principal work, Principe dos Patriarchas S. Bento, only the first two volumes were published.
