Detailed
Description
Invitation to R. Solomon b. Meshullam Zalman Cohn to assume the rabbinical chair in Zuelz, a position held by his father several years prior. R. Solomon was rabbi in Schnaittach, Mergentheim (1801-11), and accepted the position in Zuelz where he served until his passing on the 3rd of Nissan 5584 (April 1, 1824). As a grandson of R. Jacob Ettlinger and a son of the Rabbi of Fuerth, R. Solomon developed into a scholar of acumen and great erudition. Like his father he vigorously opposed all attempts to tamper with traditional customs.

The letter is a historical source of information on German Jewry. It gives a background on the positions previous rabbis, financial conditions, and related information. The document states that the position in Zuelz had been offered to R. Akiva Eiger who was unable to assume it. It is signed by the community leaders who presented it to R. Solomon and sought his approval, so that the position be filled prior to the upcoming High Holidays.
