The introduction begins with a statement of purpose, to spread the truth of faith and the Torah ethics that emanate from it, and that the value of prayer should be established in the heart of a person his entire life. He writes that Intelligence concurs with this, for it is the purpose of prayer, and the completeness and good of the soul. We possess excellent prayers and salvation that are not false in Psalms. It is not necessary to inform those of understanding that the Holy principles in them are difficult and the simple meaning as well. Mark writes that for sometime he has asked who is a man of faith and understanding that will write an introduction to enable one understand our holy prayers? When he saw that no one took it upon himself Mark put his faith in G-d and took the task upon himself.
