Description |
|
Polemical dispute between the Hasidim of R. Hayyim Eleazar Shapira (1872–1937), rabbi and Zaddik of Munkacs with R. Issachar Dov Roke'ah (1854–1927), Zaddik of Belz. The battle erupted when R. Roke'ah moved to Munkacs in 1918 and became embroiled in a bitter quarrel with the Zaddik of Munkacs which gave rise to a voluminous exchange of polemics. In 1921 R. Issachar Dov returned to Galicia and settled first in Holschitz, near Jaroslaw, moving back to Belz in 1925. The current lot survives in a very limited number of copies as they were destroyed by the opposition. Indeed, this copy may follow the rest if acquired by a Hasid of Belz.
