Detailed
Description
Twenty discourses by R. Yeshuah ben Israel Sason. The title page describes it as part one. It states that he entitled the work for himself and for the children of Israel, to place his name to bloom be seen by all. Afterwards you shall sustain, “who announces salvation” (Isaiah 52:7). He describes himself as a ñ"è (Sephardi Tahor). The title page is dated from the verse, “The Lord is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation; he is my God, and I will praise him” (Exodus 15:2). The volume concludes with an index of the homilies. The subject matter is varied, for example, the first discourse is, “which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel” (Deuteronomy 34:12), at the time that Moses wrote there was no need to begin the Torah except from “This month shall [be to you the beginning of months]” (Exodus 12:2), “Then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you” (Exodus 33:52), and “And he said to Abram, Know for a certainty that your seed shall be a stranger” (Genesis 15:13). Discourse ten is based on, “And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite” (Numbers 1: 29) as interpreted in Midrashim. Discourse fifteen is on the verse, “Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus said the Lord; I remember you,” (Jeremiah 2:2). The text is in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words which are in square letters.
