Detailed
Description
Commentary on the Tikkunei Zohar by R. Abraham Abeli of Drogobych. The title page states that a well springs forth, wisdom and knowledge, to make intelligible that wich is closed in the words of the holy Tikkunim, studied by a man G-dly and holy all his days, a hidden zaddik, unknown. Prior to his return to heaven, Rabbenu of Lublin made known his praise in the community of the righteous. He is the holy R. Abraham Abeli of Drohobitsh z”l. The title page also relates that this holy book was unknown until the L-rd aroused the spirit of R. Jekutiel Zalman Leib ha-Kohen, husband of the granddaughter, who brought the work to press. There are approbations from R. Joseph Saul ha-Levi, R. Elijah av bet din Drohobitsh, R. Joseph Moses ben Gershon, R. Isaac Izik of Ziditschov, R. Issac Judah Jehiel of Karmana, and R. Ezekiel Shraga Halberstam. There is a preface, followed by the introduction and then the text, all in two columns in rabbinic letters, excepting headers and initial words which are in square letters.

Little is known about the author, the work was printed by his grandson, the author passed on in 1892 at the age of 57. The only information available comes from the approbations to the work. R. Abraham was a teacher of small children, who spent his nights in the study of Kabbalah and piety. A story is related of an assistant who suspected that his mentor had more than met the eye. The assistant hid under his mentor's bed to observe how he spent the nights. He relates, that at midnight the R. Abraham got out of bed, prepared to recite the midnight liturgies, counted out 160 coins to dedicate to charity when he caught the assistant under the bed. He yelled at him to get out and threw the coins at him - as the assistant was leaving R. Abraham ordered the coins back on the table, where they returned at once! The approbations talk of the author's holiness with reverence.

Tikkunei Zohar is an independent kabbalistic work, distinct from the Zohar, but also attributed to R. Simeon bar Yohai.
