Description		    Commentary on all entries in the Ein Ya’acov of R. Jacob ben Solomon ibn Habib. The author writes on the title page that he has concealed his name, but below it is given as R. Shimon ben Moses a grandson of the dayyan R. Michal Friedberg. It further states that the sales of this volume go to the support of the Talmud torah of Altona in Hamburg. The author’s first introduction follows, beginning with an acrostic that spells le-Olam. His second introduction addresses his reasons for entitling the book le-Olam and for writing the book. Le-Olam, in a single column, is comprised of the text of Ein Ya’acov in square unvocallized Hebrew, followed by the author’s commentery in rabbinic letters. The last leaf is from the manuscript on the Midrash Rabbah, included so that the final leaf will not be left blank. The colophon states that the work was completed on Hanukkah, 1806. The tractates included in the work are Berakhot, Shabbat, Pesahim, Bezah, Ta’anit, Yevamot, Ketubbot, Nedarim, Gittin, Sotah, Kiddushin, Bava Kamma, Mezia, Batra, Sanhedrin, Avodah Zarah, Horayot, Hullin, and Arakhin. R. Michal Friedberg, noted on the title page, is R. Jehiel Michal Oppenheim, who was rav of Friederg.
          
Paragraph 2    ... פירוש על כל לעולם הנמצאים בעין יעקב [עם הפנים] ... כתבתי ואת שמי העלמתי ... על ידי (הכותב והמעתיק) ... ר' שמשון ב"ה הר"ר משה ז"ל נכד הדיין ... ר' מיכל פרידבורג זצ"ל.

דף כ: "אמר הכותב והמעתיק ... יצק עלי מחכמתו אדוני אבי זקני מורי ורבי (הדיין ... ר' מיכל פרידבורג), אשר כאב גדלני ... ואכתוב מספרו כ"י נקרא מיכל המים בפרשת תזריע". [1] דף: "אכתוב עוד דבר נאה מספר כ"י מיכל המים. במדרש רבה ויהי ביום כלות משה [פרשת נשא]". ר' מיכל פרידבורג הוא ר' יחיאל מיכל אופנהיים, שהיה רב בפרידבורג. ספרו "מיכל המים" נמצא בכתב-יד בספריית הבודליאנה. נראה, ש"הכותב והמעתיק" הוא המחבר.
