The group was founded in 1901 to provide lunches for orphans and unfortunate children in the Salonica's yeshivot. The pamplet lists the donors for the year 1935 from Erez Israel and offers several photos of the institution.
Ladino religious literature had its origins in pre-expulsion Spain, it was only in exile, however, that it really developed. The major original translations include the Book of Psalms (Constantinople, 1540); the Pentateuch (Constantinople, 1547); the Prophets (Salonika, 1572); and a complete translation of the Bible by R. Abraham ben Isaac Assa (Constantinople, 1739–45), which became the most popular text among the Sephardi communities of the East.
