Detailed
Description
Transcript of the Reform rabbinical conferences held in Frankfort to bring the modernist rabbis together. Since there was no unanimity among the participating rabbis, a discussion of theory was carefully avoided. The conferences were devoted to matters of practice. They provided justifications from traditional sources for liturgical reforms, particularly connected with the use of the vernacular in worship and with organ accompaniment of the service. They also sought to lighten some of the traditional severity of Sabbath observance and laws of marriage and divorce.
