Detail Description

Only edition of this work on hilkhot melamdin and hilkhot Talmud Torah by R. Judah ben Leib Melamed. There are approbations from R. Zevi Hirsch Broda, R. Shimon Kra Treibush, and R. Zeligman Zulsbach. Next is the introduction followed by the text, which begins in that every man is obligated to instruct his son and to raise talmidim, addressed in 22 sections, each with an introductory paragraph and then, in a smaller font, a descriptive lengthier paragraph. That portion of Omer mi-Yehuda, thorough part fifteen, concludes with an attractive tail-piece followed by the next part of Omer mi-Yehuda, beginning with an introductory page and then through section twenty. This is followed by novellae on tractates Berakhot, Pesahim, and several other tractates. From 16b are likkutim from y R. Ber Rakin Dorf on tractates, parashot, and midrash.

Brno (Bruenn), where Omer mi-Yehuda was printed, was the capital of Moravia, Czech Republic. The Jewish community was established there in the first half of the 13th century by Jews invited by the margrave of Moravia. A charter granted in 1254 guaranteed protection to Jewish lives and property, freed Jews from restrictions on trade and occupations, and exempted them from wearing distinguishing dress; the community had to contribute a quarter of the amount required for the upkeep of the city fortifications. A Hebrew printing press was set up in Brno in 1753 by Franz Joseph Neumann, printer of Omer mi-Yehuda.
