Detail Description

Grammatical work by R. Aaron Moses ben Zevi Hirsch, grammarian, scribe, and dayyan of Lemberg in the eighteenth century. The title page informs that it was compiled from many other works on the study of grammar and the paths of lashon ha-kodesh (the holy language, Hebrew) for which elders and the young and rejoice and be glad. It opens the eyes of the blind, explaining diacritic dots, accents, roots, etc. It lists R. Aaron Moses other work and is dated with a chronogram from the verse “[The Lord builds up Jerusalem;] he gathers together the outcasts of Israel” (Psalms 147:2). There are approbations from R. Joseph Steinheart, R. Hayyim Kohen Rappaport, and R. Abraham Mordecai Heilperin. The text, divided into sha’arim is in two columns, comprised of the subject topic in unvocalized square letters, examples in vocalized square letters, and the detailed explanations in rabbinic letters. The text begins with the alef-bet becoming progressively more complex. It follows R. Kimhi’s Sefer ha-Zikkaron.

R. Aaron Moses ben Zevi Hirsch also wrote ShirahHadashah (Zolkiev, 1764), a Hebrew grammar in verse, divided into six poems with explanations in prose, composed after the model of R. Elijah Levita's Pereḳ Shirah and Halakah le-Moshe, novellæ on the Talmud and decisions; and Ohel Mo'ed, a treatise on the Hebrew language, both of which works are still unpublished.
