Detail Description

A rare copy of the polemic in dialogue from between a Jew and a gentile by R. Abraham Loeb Benjaminson. The full title is Milhamah be-Shalom, that is,War in peace. A religions dispute between two friends. The title page informs that R. Benjaminson was also the author of Emek Yehoshpat and Hamisbonain. Milhamah be-Shalom has approbations from R. Jacob Yazof and R. Hillel Klein known as Dr. Klein, both of New York. They are followed by a brief statement of thanksgiving from R. Benjaminson to his brother Joseph, known as חאראש for his support in publishing the work. The introduction follows, in which R. Benjaminson discusses the different nature of his works, hiddusehi halalhot and piskei dinnim, explaining addagot of the sages. This work follows in the footsteps of the Ramban, R. Jehiel of Paris in his dispute with the apostate before the king of France, R. Isaac ben Abraham in Hizzuk Emunah, and others. He outlines his reasons for writing the work, that is, his predecessors defended Judaism against its detractors by showing the fallacy of their accusations. In contrast, he makes clear the fallacy of their positions. The text follows in a single column in square letters.
