Only edition of the first Hebrew dictionary by a Jew in Hebrew with German translations (in Hebrew letters) by R. Judah Leib ben Joel Minden, a German lexicographer who was resident at Berlin in the sixth decade of the eighteenth century. Millim le-Eloah, from “Bear with me a little, and I will show you; for I have yet words to speak on God’s behalf” (cf. Job 36:2) also alludes to R. Minden’s name, the letters comprising Millim מלים being those of from me, Judah Leib Minden. The title page states that it explains all the words in Torah, Neviim, and Ketuvim in Hebrew and translated into Ashkenaz with accompanying references in the Bible. The text is arranged alphabetically according to the root of eacha and every word as found in the Sefer Sheroshim of the Redak (R. David Kimhi), with added explanations from the Concordance. It is arranged so that words can be easily found.It is dated with the verse, “Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise” (Genesis 49:8). At the bottom of the title page is a signet with a crowned eagle holding a sword in one talona dn a globe in the other, with the intertwined letters FR on its chest, representative of Fredericus Rex, the Prussian monarch. There are approbations from R. David ben Naphtali Hirsch Frankel, R. Naphtali Hertz ben Benjamin Zev, R. Joel ben Jekuthiel, and R. Jeremiah ben Naphtali Hirsch and an introduction from R. Minden.The text is in two columns, initial words in square letters, explanatory text in rabbinic type. Accompanying the text are marginalia of sources. At the end of the volume is errata. Zunz described Millim le-Eloah "the initial attempt to introduce the High German language into the national literature." In 1765 Minden published a new edition of Musafia's "Zeker Rab" as a supplement to his own work.
