Detail Description

Important edition of the Yalkut Shimonei, the famed Midrashic anthology, most often simply attributed to R. Simeon of Frankfort, as noted on the title-page, but also credited by some to R. Simeon Kara and to R. Simeon ha-Darshan. This edition is noteworthy for the inclusion of the commentary Berit Avraham by R Abrahom b. Samuel Gediliah (d. 1672) of Jerusalem. R. Gediliah was the scion of a distinguished Separdic family that, sfter the expulsion from Spain, settled first in Turkey, afterwards in Safed and Tinerias, and later in Hebron. R. Gediliah was born in Jerusalem, left for Italy in 1648 to print Berit Avraham.

Midrashic anthology to the Bible. The Yalkut is the best known and most comprehensive Midrashic anthology, covering the whole Bible. Much has been written as to the identity of the Author or age of the work. It ranges from 980 to 1500 with the 13th century as the last date. Nothing is known of the Author, R. Simeon the Preacher of Frankfurt, attributions to other well known authors have all been disproven.
