Detail Description

Only edition of this highly informative biographical-bibliographical history of rabbinic figures for a period of four hundred years by Menahem Mendil ben Aryeh Leibush Biber. The title-page informs that Mazkeret le-Gedolei Ostraha is a history of the geonim, av bet denim, roshei Mesivta, maggidei mesharim, and hochmaei yosheiv yabetz be-kloyz and a listing of the titles they wrote, dinnim neflaim,, parnasim, and customs. Hassidim and anshei ma’aseh, etc. R. Israel Heilperin and R. David Heiperin are mentioned as is R. Yozpe Ostreir. The title-page is followed by a dedication to Isaac Kalman and the Fraenkel-Teomim famly, son of R. Jacob Meshullam, and R. Ephraim Zalman ha-Kohen Sussman. Next is a twelve page table of contents enumerating the 395 biographical entries in the book. There is an introduction and an apologia by the author, prefatory material and then the text. Included in the entries are the text of metzevot. Mazkeret le-Gedolei Ostraha is an invaluable tool for anyone researching earlier gedolim.
