Only edition of this explanatory work on the difficult aggadot by R. Judah Idel ben Benjamin Shershevski. The title-page states the purpose of Kur la-Zahav to remove all complaints and to reveal and show their inhehrent wisdom to the eyes of all who go in a straight manner (fairly and independently). There is a table of contents which lists one hundred thirty-one entries, for example, “all those who say that the sons of Eli sinned are in error, ten things were created erev Shabbat at twilight, and how difficult is divorce. The commentary is in two parts, the first traditional comments on the entry and then Shershevski’s detailed observations and insights.
R. Judah Idel ben Benjamin Shershevski (1804-1866) was active in the Vilna seminary together with such prominent Jewish scholars as Shemu’el Yosef Fuenn, Avraham Dov Lebensohn, Tsevi Hirsh Katzenellenbogen, Yehudah Idel Shereshevskii, Kalman Schulman, Tsevi Hirsh Klaczko, and Wolf Tugenhold in Vilna; Ya‘akov [Jakob] Eichenbaum, Yitsḥak Bakst, Ḥayim Zelig Słonimski, Mark Suchostawer, Avraham Ber Gottlober, and Eli‘ezer Zweifel.
