Detail Description

Very rare account book for the old age home in Jerusalem for the period Rosh Hodesh Kislev through Rosh Hodesh Iyyar [5]661. The reverse of the title-page has “Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders” (Psalms 107:32) and below it a depiction of the Western Wall. There is an introduction from the directors, R. Samuel Baruch ben Solomon Sandars, Dovber Frumkin, and Isaac Eizek ben-Tovim, that begins that they are giving this six month accounting of their income and expenses to their honorable supporters. They wish to thank and bestow blessings to all who have supported them, strengthening their weak hands, and giving life to thirty-sixneedy, elderly, talmudei chachamim who sit before the Lord with “Torah and Avodah” (Mishnah Sotah 7:7). The text begins with income, listing the amounts and the sources in detail followed by expenditures, the accouting signed by Nata Zevi Segal Hamborger, staff accountant. It is followed by a listing of the patients, their names, age, place of birth and previous occupation, with a photograph of the old age home, and then a list of the Jahrzeits by month, concluding with the names of the gabbaim.
