Detail Description
First edition of these discourses on the weekly Torah readings by R. Jacob Abraham ben Raphael. There are two title-pages, the first dated “and bread that sustains man’s life וְ֝לֶ֗חֶם לְֽבַב־אֱנ֥וֹשׁ יִתעָֽד׃ ( 484 = 1724).) (Psalms 104:15) except that the word used for the date יִתעָֽד has been modified from יִסְעָֽד in the original. The second title-page, which follows immediately after the first title-page is dated “ The second title-page is dated "Then take two lazuli stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel וְלָ֣קַחְתָּ֔ אֶת־שְׁתֵּ֖י אַבְנֵי־שֹׁ֑הַם וּפִתַּחְתָּ֣ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם שְׁמ֖וֹת בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (482 = 1722)” (Exodus 28:9). The first title-page informs that the author, R. Jacob Abraham ben Raphael was from Cracow and was the son-in-law of R. Kalman Broda. Both inform that he has added to his father’s sefer Avnei Shoham. There are approbations from rabbis from both the Ashkenaz and Sephardic communities of Amsterdam and introductions. The text follows in two columns, the inner column Nahalat Ya’akov the outer column Avnei Shoham. Both sets of discourses are appealing and complementary.
