R. Hayyim ben Menahem Mendel Hager (1795-1854) served as rabbi in Kosov. He was renowned for his scholarshipo and piety and respected for his kindness, hospitality, and compassion. R. Hager maintained that the primary function of a zaddik was to be a faithful
shepherd , ministering to his flock with love and rarely with discipline. Apart from Torat Hayyim R. Hager was also the author of Torat Hayyim Taninah (Sighet, 1906).
