Detail Description

Letter by R. Ephraim Zalman b. Elhanan Dov Halpern (1871-1961), Hasidic Rebbe and founder of the Va'ad Tehorot haMishpacha (Committee for Family Purity) in Jerusalem. He was born to a prominent Galician Hasidic family and educated in Galician yeshivot. He came to the USA and was appointed rabbi of Kehillah Zera Avraham in 1919. He was unusual in that he served as Rabbi for seven congregations in Denver at one time. He immigrated to Erez Israel and settled in the Gehulah section of Jerusalem where he published his work Shomer Emunim. In the 1940's he established the Va'ad Tehorot haMishpacha which publicized and sponsored the construction of mikvu'ot throughout Erez Israel. His work was supported the leaders of the generation such as the Hazon Ish, the Tschebiner, R. S. Z. Auerbach, R. Ezekiel Abramsky and others.
