Detailed Description:   

R. Issachar Dov Hakohen Tornheim, Admor of Walborz (1801- 1887). Son of R. Abraham Tzvi, who died when Issachar was ten years old. He married Esther Malkah, the daughter of R. Abraham Tzvi ofWalborz. He was a disciple of  R. Uri of Strelisk, R. Issachar Dov of Radoszyce, and R. Eliezer Hofstein of Kozienice. He became rebbe on 26 Kislev 1862 and settled in Piotrokov.

He officiated at the reader's desk at every service on weekdays and on the Sabbath. On Friday night, he studied twenty-four chapters of the Mishnah Shabbat before reciting Kiddush at midnight. His Sabbath table was set with silver utensils: "Just as one honors the Sabbath in this world, so will one be honored in the hereafter."

He was the author of a commentary on the Pentateuch, Avodat Yissakhar (Lodz, 1912). He also wrote a commentary on the tractate Niddah, which was lost. He was succeeded by his son R. Jacob Moses, who died on 14 Kislev 1918. His other son, R. Akiba Meir (1843-1 Heshvan 1909), became rebbe in 1897.
