Detailed Description

Only edition of these eulogies and a discourse by R. Judah Loeb Karlsburg for R. Judah Leib Shayer. The title page states that it is intended to arouse the hearts of fathers and sons to bewail the passing of the rav, the gaon, the pious R. Judah Leib Shayer, av bet din and rosh mesivta, Dusseldorf. R. Shayer was eighty-eight when he was “gathered to his people” (Genesis 49:29) on 26 Shevat and nuried with great honor on 27 Shevat. It is dated with the verse “and all his works are done in faithfulness” (Psalms 33:4). There are brief prefatory remarks in German from M. Roest, curator of the Bibliotheka Rosenthaliana, a letter from R. Naphtali Adler ha-Kohen of London, the three discourses and, with its own title page, Siyug le-Pirishus, a discourse on parashat Naso on the laws of the Nazir and also explaining many Mishnayot in the first chapter of Avot and verses in the haftorah.
