Detail Description

Novellae on the Shulhan Arukh Even haEzer by R. Isaac ben Benjamin Tayyib. The title page has a decorative frame. R. Tayyib begins that he has arranged “the judgment of the Urim” (Numbers 27:21) that go on the table of kings, about which encamp “two cherubim of gold” (Exodus 25:18). He thanks Jonah Hai, David Roah, Nikof Hai and his brother Judah, and David Sadvon, who helped bring this work to press. The text, in two columns is in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words. Erekh ha-Shulhan is a detailed learned elucidation of Yoreh De'ah. The volume concludes with addenda, errata, and an index. R. Isaac ben Benjamin Tayyib (d. 1830) was a rabbi, kabbalist, and author from Tunis. No biographical details are known of him and his considerable reputation rests on his works. In addition to this edition of Erekh ha-Shulhan on Hoshen Mishpat, R. Tayyib also wrote novellae on other parts of the Shulhan Arukh, such as Orah Hayyim (1791), Yoreh De’ah (1798), Even ha-Ezer (1844), all published at Leghorn. He also wrote Vavei ha-Ammudim (1858), a commentary on the Sefer Yere'im of Eliezer of Metz; Hukkat ha-Pesah (1853), a commentary on the Passover laws in the Shulhan Arukh; Sefer ha-Zikkaron (2 parts, 1892). Part 1 consists of novellae and part 2 is a kabbalistic commentary on Avot and the Passover Haggadah; Helev Hittim (1896), talmudic novellae; Va-Yizra Yizhak (Djerba, 1941), novellae to Genesis.
