Detailed Description
Homilies by R. Abraham (Leichtag) Wachsmann (d. 1944), dayyan in Ujpest. Born in 1890 in Bánffyhunyadon in Romania, R. Abraham Leichtag Wachsmann received his theological training in his father’s Yeshiva. He was a respected and prominent scholar serving in several Orthodox Jewish communities including the Ujpest section of Budapest in Hungary and Scheveningen in Holland and the Ujpest section of Budapest in Hungary. A book of his liturgical writings “Sefer Gey Chizayon” was printed in Romania in 1928. Along with his wife, Bressel Leicthag Wacshmann, and much of the Jewish population of Ujpest, he was deported by the Nazis in July 1944. The names of Rabbi Abrham Leichtag Wachsmann and Rabbanit Bressel Leichtag Wachsmann appear in the list of “Ujpest Martyrs” in the Yizkor book for Ujpest.
