Only edition. [4], 82 pp. folio 307:197 mm., wide margins, light age and damp staining. A very good copy bound in contemporary boards, rubbed.

 

Detail Description

Only edition of these responsa by R. Samuel ben Joseph of Amdur (d. 1777), written in answer to quires, the word of the Lord is halakhah. Printed posthumously, the title page informs that R. Samuel, av bet din of Amdur and the region of Grodna was known to all as R. Samuel Galil Rav and that his father was the author of Bet Shemu’el on Even ha-Ezer. Appended to the text are some pilpulim on the words of the Rambam and poskim taken from the novellae of the gaon the author on shass. There are approbations from R. Joseph ben Meir Fimmer, R. David Tebele Ribin, R. Elijah Goldberg, R. Moses Zevi Heilperin, R. Moses Samuel Pinas, and R. Gershon Tanhum Pozna. Next is the introduction of R. Abraham ben Zechariah Mendel ben Aryeh Leib son-in-law of of R. Raphael ha-Kohen av bet din and son of the author. The text begins with responsa on hilkhot shehitah, followed by hilkhot Gittin, agunot, kedushei Katan, eshet kohen, and hametz. After the responsa are the pilpulim on the Rambam and sugyot on several tractates.

  אשר השיב אל השואלים... מוה’ שמואל זצוקללה"ה אב"ד דק"ק אמדור וגליל דהוראדנא <הנקרא בפי כל ר’ שמואל גליל רב> בהגאון מוה’ יוסף ז"ל בהגאון... [ר’ שמואל ב"ר אורי שרגא פייבוש מוודיסלאב] בעל המחבר בית שמואל על אבן העזר [דיהרן פורט תמ"ט]. ונלוה עליהם פלפולים אחדים בדברי הרמב"ם והפוסקים לקוחים מחידושי הגאון המחבר ז"ל על הש"ס (המעתיק... אפרים פישיל בהגאון המחבר [שהוסיף הערות משלו]).

עמ’ [4]: מדבר קדמות. "הקדמה מאת נכד... המחבר ... אברהם בהרב... מהו’ זכריה מענדיל [האמבורג] זצ"ל בהרב... אריה ליב זצ"ל שהיה חתן... מהו’ רפאל הכהן אב"ד דק"ק אה"ו ובן... המחבר". כותב: "זקנתי ושבתי... ואור עיני אין אתי... פניתי... אל בני... מהו’ רפאל נ"י ואומר אליו קום... להוציא לאור עולם תורת מרן זקננו... ויטל עליו העבודה מראשית ועד אחרית".
