Detail Description

On faith from a Hasidic (Lubavitch) perspective by R. Abraham Samuel Benjamin Wolf Sofer (1815-71). The title page describes Emunat ha-Yihud as pleasant words, enlightening the eyes as sapphires, with beryl filled, with pure gold set. It was brought to press by the author’s son R. Solomon Sofer. At the bottom of the title page, in German, is publication information and a prohibition against reproduction. There are approbations from R. Joseph Saul ha-Levi Nathanson, R. Isaac Schmelkes, and R. Moses ben Joseph Hananiah Lipa Meisels. R. Sofer’s introduction follows and then the text, which is set ina single column in rabbinic type excepting initial words and headers. Emunat ha-Yihud is comprised of sixty four chapters. It is based on the Tanya of R. Shneur Zalman of Lyady (1745–1813), founder of Habad Hasidism and the work of his grandson, R. Menahem Mendel (Zemah Zedek, 1789–1866) and reflects the philosophic approach of Habad Hasidism.
