Detailed Description  

First edition of this encyclopedic, multipart overview, and pedagogical textbook on Jewish literature by Magnus Jacob ben Joseph Benjamin Krinskii (Krinsky). This large volume is part two, part one having been printed several years earlier, is divided into five parts, each subdivided into numerous sections and within each section several, often detailed entries. The first section on hashkafa encompasses biblical books, Talmud and aggadah, the middle ages, the rabbinate and hasidim, the enlightenment, and theiyah, that is, the modern period and the revival of Hebrew literature. Each of these subjects has several entries. The second part is on science has six subsections and includes man, the people, education, and nature. Next is literature with three sections, including stories, humor, parody, and mimicry. The next two parts, each with two sections, are on autobiography and biography and on history. The text is accompanied with portraits of subjects and writers.

Magnus Jacob ben Joseph Benjamin Krinskii (Krinsky) was both a teacher and school principal. He published a series of books titled Bikher far Ale (books for all). He also wrote, in addition to Ha-Signon ha-Ivri, other Hebrew textbooks, some republished several times, including Reshit daat sefath eber, which was published for the twenty-fifth time in New York (1925). Krinskii was also the other of several books in Yiddish on Jewish literature.
