Detail Description

Oath in Judeo-German administered in Prague before the open Holy Ark that the declared income for community tax purposes is accurate. The individual and his wife are agreeing to suffer the curses detailed in the Pentateuch and subsequent Prophets if they are not truthful in their declaration. The document details the various incomes Jews had in 17-18th century Prague. The oath is printed in square block letters with symbols for easy recitation.

The collected revenues were utilized to pay the royal fees for continued living of Jews in Prague and the Jewish community's expenses.

 

Hebrew Description

פראג. המאה הי"ז? דף בודד, נדפס משני צדיו. ◦2. פראג נזכר בגוף השבועה בלשון “היר אין פראג”.

על ענין הברדאן כתב י. היילפרין במילונו שבסוף “פנקס ועד ד' ארצות”. כך: “פרדאן, ברדאן, בטרנסקריפציה פולנית Berdon, Perdon, מס של הקהילות מצריכה ומשא⁻מתן, בדומה לקאראפקי האתימולוגיה של המלה טרם נתבררה כל צרכה. מקצת ביבליוגראפיה על המס הזה בפולין ובאירופה המרכזית: ויינריב, 1938, MGWJ עמ' 263”. מעבר לדף – המשך השבועה, וגם שבועת האשה.
