Detail Description

Commentary to the Pentateuch (part 1 & 2) by R. Moses Grunwald (1853–1910). He was born in Csorna, Hungary to his famous father R. Amram Grunwald. He studied under R. Abraham Samuel Sofer in Pressburg, but leaned to Hasidism and often visited R. Issachar Dov of Belz. He served as rabbi in Homonna, Slovakia and Kisvarda, Hungary and from 1893 in Huszt, Carpatho-Russia, where he established one of the major Hungarian yeshivas. R. Grunwald wrote three works all with the title Arugot ha-Bosem: (1) responsa (1912); (2) a study of the talmudic principle of Issur Hal al Issur (more than one prohibition can apply to the same act; 1928); and (3) a commentary on the Pentateuch (1913). He also wrote Mikveh Tohorah on the laws of mikveh (1931). His will was published (1911) under the title Hakhanah de-Rabbah.
