First edition. [6], 480 (of 484, [7]) ff., folio, 321:23 mm., wide margins, usual light age and damp staining, old hands, lacking final 11 ff. A good copy bound in later boards, split.

 

Detail Description

Kabbalistic commentary on Bereshit Rabbah emphasizing mainly the basic ethical foundation and teaching concerning the soul embroidered with general aggadic homilies. R. Abraham Jehiel Mikhal b. Uzziel (1680-1730) was born in Kalisz, Poland, lived at Halberstadt and studied in the Bet Medresh of R. Issahar Berman Segal, and passed on in Vienna. His only known work, Nezar ha-Kodesh, carries approbations from many prominent contemporary rabbis. A long responsum, addressed to R. Zevi Hirsch Ashkenazi and quoted in She'elat Ya'bez (Altona, 1739) was written by him.Moravia. He was a descendant of R. Jonah Nahum, brother of the Shakh (R. Shabbetai ben Meir Ha-Kohen) and son-in-law of R. Samuel Kaidenower (Birkat ha-Zevah).
