First edition, quarto, [3], 48, [1], 57-72 ff. 224:185 mm. wide margins, usual age staining, paper repairs affecting text, small loss to final. A good copy bound in contemporary cloth over boards, rubbed and split.
Detail Description
First edition of this rare commentary on Pirke Avot by R. Samuel b. Mordecai ha-Levi Galante (1750-1810). On the title-page R. Galante informs that he was the av bet din in Sitrizov. He informs that is purpose in writing was to increase ahavas Ha-Shem. On the verso of the title-page are approbations followed by R. Galante’s introduction and then the text set in two columns in rabbinic letters, with headers from Avot in square letters. The text is detailed and thorough. A valuable addition to the works on Avot.
