Only edition. [2], 58 ff., folio, 347:205 mm., usual age and damp staining, wide margins, old hands and stamps of previous owners. A good copy bound in modern half cloth and marbled paper boards, rubbed.

 

Detail Description

Novellae on tractates of the Talmud by R. Joseph ben Avigdor. The text of the title page is set within an ornamental architectural frame with a crown at the top, above a pitcher. There are also pitchers at the base of the pillars. There are numerous approbations from leading rabbis in Poland and Germany. The tractates for which there are novellae are Sanhedrin, Makkot, Bava Kama, Bava Mezia, Berakhot, Shabbat, Pesahim, Yevamot, Gittin, and Kiddushin. The greatest part of the novellae are on Sanhedrin (1a-13a) and Makkot (13a-35b} and on the final page (58b) an index to Tractate Sanhedrin. This is the only edition of Tavnit Ot Yosef. The title page is dated with the chronogram “And the Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2, 21).

R. Joseph ben Avigdor was Av Bet Din in Trinigrad טרניגראד and was a rav in אסרווצי.
