Detail Description

The Frankfurt on the Oder Talmud was printed from 1697 through 1699. Each volume of this edition has two title pages. The first, a volume-header page, has an engraved copper-plate title page by the craftsman Martin Bernige-roth (1670–1733), present in this copy.  The second, the tractate title page, follows immediately after the volume title page. The tractate title pages are basically copied, with several modifications, from the Benveniste Talmud; however, they also include features characteristic of the Basel Talmud, which is supposed to be the source of this edition.
A set on vellum was printed for the famous collector R. David Oppenheim.
