Detailed Description:   

Only edition of these discourses on the weekly parasha by the distinguished R. Elijah ben Solomon Abraham ha-Kohen ha-Itamari. This volume, on Bamidbar and Devorim, is part three of Megalleh Tzefunot. The title-page is dated with the verse “When the heads of the people assembled. The tribes of Israel together בְּהִתְאַסֵּף֙ רָ֣אשֵׁי עָ֔ם יַ֖חַד שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל (621 = 1861)” (Deuteronomy 33:6). The text is detailed, discursive, and with kabbalistic contnet.

R. Eliyahu ben Solomon Abraham ha-Kohen ha-Itamari (1640-1729) was a dayan, almoner and preacher. Born in Izmir, R. Eliyahu was a student of R. Benjamin Melamed and became a homiletic preacher. R. Eliyahu's opposition to Shabbetai caused him considerable grief at home. He apparently cared for orphans, reflected in his writings, as well as displaying a detailed knowledge of the physical and psychological suffering of the poor. A prolific writer he is best remembered for his ethical work Shevet Mussar (Rod of Admonition), A prolific writer, R. Elijah is credited with as many as thirty works, the best known being his Shevet Mussar.
