Detail Description

A rare Yiddish booklet of humorous Polish Jewish folk stories by Zalman (Salomona) Maurer (1873-1942). Little is known about the author, who apparently perished in the Holocaust, apart from having a savvy sense of humor and realism. The stories, in traditional Polish Yiddish, are intriguing and accurately depict life in the Jewish shtetel with a deep sense of "we may not have much - however - we survive, hope for redemption, and prosper". The author was well schooled in traditional Judaism and brings it across in the book.
