Detail Description

Only edition of this varied booklet by R. Benzion ben Solomon Shlez (d. 1895). R. Shlez, who was born in Kharkov and made aliyot to Erez Israel in 1865 was the author of several highly regarded works, among them Sha’arit Ziyyon (Jerusalem, 1883) on Bereshit, Hazici ha-Ziyyonim (Jerusalem, 1871-72) on aggadot Hazal, Kokaiv Ya’akov (Jerusalem, 1873), and other titles. The title page has the subtitle of Ketiva ve-hatima tova le-altar le-hayyim tovim, from the Rosh HaShanah greeting. Col ha-Ketuv le-Hayyim is dated with the verse “[and in Your favor] our horn shall be exalted” (Psalms 89:18). There are approbations from R. Raphael Meir Panziel, R. Saul Eliyashar, and R. Nissin Baruch, all of Jerusalem. Col ha-Ketuv le-Hayyim is taken from the large work Sha’arit Ziyyon. It includes a small number of pearls from Sha’arit Ziyyon and approbations that R. Shlez has received.
