Detail Description

Three varied, interesting, independent works bound together. They are Kobetz al Yad-Sefer ha-Asaf; Tachnunei Benei Yisrael; and Rav Palim. The first work, Kobetz al Yad-Sefer ha-Asaf, published by the Mekize Nirdamim Society, is described on an additional title-page as Sammelband kleiner Beiträge aus handschriften, mitgetheilt von Neubauer, Halberstam, und Berliner (Anthology of small contributions from manuscripts, shared by Neubauer, Halberstam, and Berliner). This issue contains the first publication of early (medieval) manuscripts dealing with the ten shevatim (tribes) of Israel and the sons of Moses. Mekize Nirdamim (rousers of those who slumber) was the first society for the publication of medieval Hebrew literature in every branch of intellectual activity, in
scholarly editions. The aim of the society was both to propagate a knowledge of Jewish scholarship and to establish personal contact between scholars.

The second work, Tachnunei Benei Yisrael, is twelve selihot on gezirot Ya’alov with notes and additions. The latter consists of four additional selihot with notes
accompanying the text and at the end. An example of the added tahnunim is no 14, which is a kinah on the burning of the pious and holy R. Elia who gave himself over for burning for kiddush ha Ha-Shem in the year 56.

The third work, this independent from the Mekize Nirdamim titles, is Rav Palim, by Abraham ben R. Elijah of Vilna (Vilna gaon, Gra). This is the only edition of Rav Paim, an extensive annotated work on the sources of midrashim and aggadot, the text accompanied by notes and addenda from R. Shimon Moses ben Gedaliah Hanes of Vilna.

Three valuable, interesting, and varied rare works.
